Historical Society Secretary’s Report 2/7/2019

Attendance: Roger Maxfield, Deanna Tranfaglia, Lucy Gordon, Elizabeth Whitham, Dustin Bowles, Melissa Moore, Mary Nichols and Liz LeBrun.

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm.  The secretary’s report was read and Lucy made a motion to accept the report.  Deanna seconded.  Motion carried.

Lucy reported that we have spent $942.  The treasury balance is $1557.

The computer program Past Perfect was discussed.  Deanna, Lucy, Roger and Drayce Maxfield  went to Canterbury to see a demonstration.  Laconia was also called for feedback on the imaging software but a follow up phone call needs to happen.  It was noted that it is best to designate one or two people to use the program so that descriptions are consistent.  The Past Perfect company was also called and it was estimated that $1614 is needed to purchase the software and necessary options. We also must buy a desktop computer and monitor to support the software.  That expense was estimated at $800 and should be done before the new budget on July 1.  It was discussed that after July 1, we should join AASLH to save 20% on future purchases.

The contract for Melissa Moore to begin work on the town history book is drafted and the warrant article is ready for town meeting.

The event with the library was successful as Roger, Deanna and Lucy all participated.

It was determined that we could save $323 yearly with a new Comcast agreement.  Buying our own modem could also save.

Melissa passed around a picture from the State Historical Society of the Earl of Loudon.

April 3 at 7:00 pm is scheduled for the humanities lecture.  Discussion of what fundraising could be done that night.

Fundraising letters for the town history book are in process by Roger.

We discussed being open only one day per month during the winter months.  Roger and Deanna will man the opening on February 20th.

Discussion that we need more advertising for our events as well as keeping an up-to-date website.

The town gets a check for perpetual care of the veteran’s memorial and a citizen was inquiring about a plaque for civil war veterans.  That list of veterans will be included in the town history book.

Mary was thanked for supplying us with her family genealogy.

Discussion of maintaining the former town office building and hope expressed that it can be made suitable as the future home of the Historical Society.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday March 7 since the usual meeting time would conflict with candidate’s night. .

Meeting adjourned at 7:18 pm.
