Historical Society Meeting Minutes 10-2-2019

Attendance: Dyrace Maxfield, Elizabeth Whitham, Deanna Tranfaglia, Lucy Gordon, Wes Jones, Melissa Moore, Stanley Prescott and Liz LeBrun

The meeting was called to order at 6:30. Deanna made a motion to accept the Secretary’s report as presented. Wes seconded. Motion carried.

Lucy reported that we have spent $1401 to date.

Melissa reported that she has finished a draft of Chapter 1 of Loudon’s history. Agriculture is being researched for the next chapter.

As an ongoing topic, we discussed a monument to the Civil/Revolutionary War veterans. A kiosk was suggested and nixed. A plaque was suggested for the back of the stone that is already in place at the library but research is needed to make sure all appropriate names are included. A plaque would allow for corrections if necessary. The Selectmen have not been approached. Stanley will bring this up to them.

The group decided to order 50 more 2020 calendars.

The Civil War presentation will be Nov 6. Dyrace will put it on Facebook. It was decided who will bring refreshments.

Discussion of the Made in Loudon/Christmas Tree Lighting on December 1. Some tables are still available. Lucy will talk to Ashley about the story portion of the program. Liz showed the craft that will be available for the kids.

Discussion of what we could do for fund-raising. Ornaments, tee shirts, tote bags and paperweights were suggested and we decided to revisit this topic early next year. We also suggested looking into the Humanities Council for a grant to help with publication of the book.

We discussed Loudon’s 250th anniversary in 2023 and opening the time capsule and creating a new one. Now is also the time to start getting all Loudon organizations together to be involved in planning the celebration.

We discussed the upgrade to the laptop. Some information was wiped out but the files were eventually downloaded. There was no upgrade to Word or Excel. Apache or Google drive are some options. Dyrace will look at the alternatives.

The cost of Past Perfect has not changed. Member volunteered to form a committee to get started with the inventory this winter. Those volunteering were Wes, Deanna, Stanley, Liz, Lucy and Elizabeth. We should have a secure environment before we let our inventory become visible to everyone. The Conservation Committee has offered $20 per month for use of our Wi-Fi.

Bradley Stuart continues to make monthly donations of items. The library has given us books of the Civil War regiments.

The next meeting is November 20 at 6:30. Stanley made a motion to adjourn at 7:55

Respectfully submitted

Liz LeBrun
