Historical Society Meeting Minutes 11/20/2019

Attendance: Roger Maxfield, Deanna Tranfaglia, Lucy Gordon, Michelle York, Melissa Moore, Wes Jones, Dyrace Maxfield, Stanley Prescott, and Liz LeBrun

The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m.

The Secretary’s report was presented and Lucy made a motion to accept the report as written.  Stanley seconded.  Motion carried.

Lucy reported that we have spent $1501 to date and there is $2000 remaining.

A thank you note should go to the Loudon Village Country Store for selling so many calendars.

Melissa reporting on the progress of the book, stated that she went to the UNH special collections library, completed three oral histories and visited the Pittsfield Historical Society.  She is aiming for the end of December to have a draft of the chapter on agriculture.

The Civil War presentation was excellent and was very well attended.  Dyrace is anticipating doing it again for Young at Heart and for the library in January when they again host Loudon’s birthday celebration.

The Boston Post Cane was discussed.  Liz will put an ad in the Ledger to pursue applicants.

Eleven tables are rented for the Made in Loudon craft fair.  We will set up and decorate on Saturday at 10 a.m.  We will have hot chocolate and cookies for the tree lighting.  The ceremony will include reading a story, and singing carols. The fire department will have a s’mores fire pit and will ride through with a decorated fire truck carrying Santa. We questioned whether the advertising is sufficient.  It is on Facebook, in the Ledger and on posters.

Lucy and Roger will work on the yearly write-up for the town report.

We discussed purchasing Past Perfect and beginning the inventory process.  Lucy will call to see how long delivery takes.

We discussed pursuing a program from Steve Taylor about NH’s love/hate relationship with agricultural fairs.  Michelle will look into a Humanities Council grant.

At town meeting we will bring up involving all Loudon organizations in the 250th celebration.  Roger stated that he has written a warrant article for town meeting to form a capital reserve fund aimed at redoing the former town office building to meet the Historical Society’s future needs.

Stanley made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 p.m.  Wes seconded.  Meeting adjourned.
