Historical Society Meeting Minutes 4-14-21

Attendance: Stanley Prescott, Roger Maxfield, Wes Jones, Elizabeth Whitham, DeeDee Tranfaglia, Michele York, Lucy Gordon, Melissa Moore, Sandy Noel, Liz LeBrun

The meeting was called to order at 6:35. Roger made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting as written. Michele seconded.

We have spent $1650 to date which leaves us with $1840. Some acid free storage bins were purchased. We need to purchase shelving and a four-step stepladder. Roger will get prices. There are some negatives from Herman Annis that need to be made into prints. We noted that there is no Historical Society property in the part of the stone house that will eventually be torn down. The architect that Melissa agreed to contact is a recent college grad and not eligible at this time to do plans for the stone house.

Melissa did a school presentation to (3) 4th grade classes and it was a successful project. She has finished last year’s writing contract and is currently working on the chapter about schools. She would like to talk with Judy Johnson. She will continue to work under a new contract for this year.

Mel Bolden, a former Loudon resident, was featured by Concord in a piece about Black History Month. His work should be featured in our display especially during Black History Month next year.

The Civil War plaque was discussed. It would not be easy to include all names on a plaque. We discussed coming up with a tribute that would not include individual names.

May 15th is town meeting. Michele will speak about our plans for the stone house. The town will vote on starting a capital reserve fund for $25,000.

Four hundred and twenty items have been inventoried in Past Perfect over the winter primarily by Lucy and DeeDee. Many of the stories about items that were donated have been lost. Lucy, DeeDee , and Roger have started spring cleaning and need additional help. Roger will coordinate with the town to clean out the stone house. It was discussed to get us all together on a weekend to continue with the cleanup. The loft above the museum needs cleaning as well as the bicycles underneath the building.

Old Home Day this year is up in the air. We need to get some banners for identification at our booth.

Melissa presented her ideas about a travel trunk to be modeled after the NH Historical Society. The trunk would contain historical items as well as a lesson plan. We could also develop a self-guided tour through the town. We can apply for a grant with an approval date in the fall. Michele will look into getting the government numbers needed for the application. We also discussed Liz looking into a grant-writing course.

When will we reopen the museum to the public? The town must announce approval before we make that move.

Next meeting May 5th at 6:30.

Motion by Wes for the meeting to adjourn. Second by Lucy. Meeting adjourned at 7:30.

Respectfully submitted,

Liz LeBrun
