Historical Society Meeting Minutes 5/5/21

Attendance: Roger Maxfield, Dee Dee Tranfaglia, Lucy Gordon, Liz LeBrun, Michele York, Elizabeth Whitham, and Sandy Noel

The meeting was called to order at 6:34.

Roger made a motion to accept the secretary’s report with the change from Michele to Melissa as being the presenter of the traveling trunk idea. Lucy seconded. Motion passed.

Two thousand dollars of the budget has been spent. Still needed are office supplies, and banners for Old Home Day. Discussion of the Veteran’s Fund covering the engraving on the plaque at the library in honor of Civil War and Revolutionary War vets. Roger is meeting with Perry Brothers Monument tomorrow. We discussed a 1958 chair owned by an Arizona resident that belonged to Loudon resident Everett Jenkins in the House of Representatives. Three six foot shelving units have been purchased. Dyrace is working on negative development and storage.

The Merrill Building on Ring Road has been purchased by Colin Cabot. We need pictures since it is one of the oldest houses in Loudon.

Michele will speak at Town Meeting for the warrant article to create a Capital Reserve Fund for the stone house to be renovated to provide temperature controlled space.

For Old Home Day, we will put together baskets to raffle. Dee Dee has raffle tickets and Elizabeth has volunteered to put together the baskets.

The Historical Society will take part in the town-wide yard sale on June 12 but decided against advertising on the map. We have bottles, some benches taken from the loft and other miscellaneous items. The benches came from the Town Hall and it is believed could have been made by the Shakers.

Roger talks about a letter going to town businesses to raise money for publishing the town history. We may designate blue, gold and platinum donors and publish those names in the book. The 250th celebration should be brought up at town meeting. It should be tied to Old Home Day and include Sunday events as well as Saturday.

There is a talk on October 5 about Chichester Farms and Dairy Farming.

Our next meeting will be June 2 at 6:30 pm. Motion to adjourn by Michele. Seconded by Lucy. Meeting adjourned at 7:22 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Liz LeBrun

Secretary
