Historical Society Meeting Minutes 12/1/21

Attendance: Roger Maxfield, Melissa Moore, Sandi Noel, Stanley Prescott, Lucy Gordon, Michele York, DeeDee Tranfaglia, Elizabeth Whitham, Liz LeBrun

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm. Stanley made a motion to accept the secretary’s report as written. DeeDee seconded the motion.

Lucy reported that we have $1800 left in the budget for the year. Ninety percent of the grant money has been received and will be put in the Historical Society savings account. We reviewed what expenses might be left from now until June, including the $500 match to the grant.

Melissa reviewed progress on the town history book. She visited the Aviation Museum for information on the Perley Ordway/Caleb Marston airplane. It was suggested that the library should get a pass to that museum. She is reviewing tax maps to determine the oldest house in Loudon. Stanley is also researching this. She will have the specialty trades chapter completed by the end of December and will do stores in January and February.

Michele suggested that we meet with the Old Home Day committee and other town organizations prior to town meeting to begin to organize Loudon’s 250th birthday celebration.

We received an email from Meg Quince about donating a quilt made by her grandmother which has some fancy embroidered names. Dyrace may be interested in researching genealogy.

The Made in Loudon Expo and tree lighting will take place on December 5. The tree is decorated. Set up at the fire station can begin at 10 am and at Charlie’s Barn crafters can have access on Saturday 1-3. Storytime will be at the library at 2:30 on Sunday and singing will be outside at the fire pit. The bake sale will be by donation.

Wes Jones is getting some chairs from the Batchelder farm appraised that we might consider investing in.

Stanley suggested that we give a small donation to Sanborn Mills Farm for their role in keeping Loudon’s history alive.

There is no January meeting. Our next meeting is February 2 at 6:30 pm.

Roger made a motion to adjourn. DeeDee seconded.

Meeting adjourned at 7:35 pm.
