Historical Society Meeting Minutes 2-2-22

Attendance: Sandi Noel, Wes Jones, Elizabeth Whitham, Melissa Moore, DeeDee Tranfaglia, Michele York, Lucy Gordon, Stanley Prescott, Liz LeBrun, Polly Touzin

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm.

A motion was made by Stanley to accept the Secretary’s report as written. Second by DeeDee.

Lucy reported we have $1100 to date and there are no big expenses left.

Polly Touzin discussed having a Native American exhibit in the museum. All were in favor of the idea. The Warner Native American Museum could offer loans. Polly wants to be instrumental in making this a reality. The Historical Society has the wooden coins from the Bicentennial and some information about the Quinnipi Trail. Melissa read a history of the name Bumfagon (as in Bumfagon Road). It was suggested Ron Lane might provide some information on Native Americans. It was also suggested to contact George LeDuc.

Discussion of getting in touch with the Old Home Day Committee to start planning 2023 Old Home Day in conjunction with Loudon’s 250th birthday celebration. Michele is prepared to speak at town meeting.

Melissa reported on the progress of the history book. Chapter 11 will be focused on stores. It was also discussed that peddlers should be included in that chapter. Publishers were discussed including Peter Randall, History Press, and Plaidswede. We also discussed fundraising to offset the cost of publishing.

The Traveling Trunks grant program is anticipating the first presentation in March. We discussed the checking account which was opened to manage grant money and it is suggested that we should be thinking about a savings account in the future. The grant will be announced to the public at town meeting.

The Tree Lighting and Expo went well. Some suggestions for improvement were to have a more organized schedule for outside activities, to extend the hours of the craft sale and to split the Historical Society volunteers more evenly between the two buildings.

We received a donation of an 1858 Merrimack County map from Steve Wheeler. We discussed restoration of the map. We also received a donation of a shovel stamped Loudon NH from Brad Stuart.

Stanley showed some Mel Bolden articles that he owned. Wes has 4 chairs that he is researching because one has Batchelder written underneath.

There will be a director’s meeting on February 16 at 6:30 pm.

The next regular Historical Society meeting is March 2 at 6:30 pm.

Motion by Stanley to adjourn. Second by Lucy.

The meeting adjourned at 8:28pm

Respectfully submitted

Liz LeBrun, Secretary
