Historical Society Meeting Minutes 3-16-22

Attendance: Wes Jones, Stanley Prescott, Melissa Moore, DeeDee Tranfaglia, Michele York, Lucy Gordon, Sandi Noel, Elizabeth Whitham, Roger Maxfield, Liz LeBrun

The meeting was called to order at 6:36 pm. Roger made a motion to accept the secretary’s report with two corrections noted. Stanley seconded the motion.

Lucy reported $1044 remaining in the budget.

Melissa reported that the chapter about stores for the Loudon History book will be done by the end of the month. She has researched phones in the stores and has now completed that topic. She is also gathering information concerning publishing and History Press has sent a contract. There was no response from Plaidswede. Melissa visited Moultonborough Country Store to see samples of the History Press books for sale there. She is concerned that interviews in the book will be edited. History Press would cost about $5500 and would need finished material to them by August. Melissa will provide copies of the contract to Stanley and Roger then a director’s meeting should be scheduled to discuss it.

Randall Publishing has not quoted costs. Melissa will try to have more conversation with them.

The Traveling Trunks slide presentation is done. There are some housekeeping loose ends to finalize. It was discussed that we can use the Historical Society laptop and projector. April 20 at 6:30 is scheduled to present the program to the Historical Society members and guests. Our National Congressional delegation will also be invited per grant requirements. Display of the Concord Coach is complete. The coach will not travel unless a Historical Society member goes as well. We thank Stanley for his 198 hours assembling the 675 pieces. Mark Stevens will write about Stanley’s project in Business NH. Stanley donated his copy of Ed Rouse’s book.

Town meeting approved money for the Historical Society Capital Reserve Fund by amending the warrant article that mistakenly left it out.

Michele, Stanley and Liz met with the Old Home Day Committee. They are in favor of creating a separate committee to plan Loudon’s 250th celebration in conjunction with the 2023 Old Home Day. We had a discussion of how the coordination would work. Michele will write something for the Ledger.

For 2022 Old Home Day, we will have a bake sale. Elizabeth will take the lead to coordinate the dedication of the war memorial at the Library.

The next meeting will be April 6 at 6:30 pm.

Roger made a motion to adjourn. Stanley seconded the motion.

The meeting adjourned at 7:33 pm

Respectfully submitted,

Liz LeBrun, Secretary
