Historical Society Meeting Minutes 9-7-22

Attendance: Liz LeBrun, Nicholas Gelinas, Sue Gelinas, Krish Jakubowski, Polly Touzin, Melissa Moore, Sandi Noel, Mark Godzik, Michelle Drago, Karen Steele, Michele York, Stan Prescott, Lucy Gordon, Roger Maxfield

The meeting was called to order at 6:34pm

There was a motion by Roger to accept the minutes of the last meeting as written. Motion seconded by Lucy.

Lucy reported that we have had only Wi-Fi and safe repair expenditures since the last meeting.

Discussion of Old Home Day 2023. The Old Home Day Committee reported that currently food vendors are being booked. The committee is hoping to have a bigger fireworks display. The committee wants some new membership to be able to provide a two day event, perhaps involving a town-wide church service, a movie night or a family picnic. It was discussed that more money should be requested from the town by the December budget deadline. Other ideas included having activities at different locations, a scavenger hunt, additional signage, and more youth involvement.

The writing portion of the Town History book is almost complete with the chapter of A-Z Notables being finished up. Melissa is working on obtaining all interview release forms as well polishing up the pictures for the book. We have received the signed contract from Randall. Melissa also noted that she met Dr. Mecrath’s great great granddaughter.

Discussion of who will buy the new fireproof safe. Nothing was decided. Stanley, Roger and Brenda, at the town office, will work it out. Lucy asks that they delay it until she is available to transfer the materials from the old one.

Old Home Day 2022 was a success as far as the bake sale and the display Polly created. Polly thanked the Historical Society for supporting her efforts to highlight indigenous people.

It is agreed that we will have the Made in Loudon Expo and the tree lighting ceremony on December 4. We agreed on extending it 11-4 at $20 per table. Michele will be in charge of table rentals. We will have a bake sale and will again ask the fire department to be involved.

The next meeting is October 5 at 6:30 pm.

The meeting adjourned at 7:50 pm

Respectfully submitted,

Liz LeBrun
