Historical Society Meeting Minutes October 07, 2020

Attendance: Roger Maxfield, Melissa Moore, Michele York, Wes Jones, Deanna Tranfaglia, Elizabeth Whitham, Stan Prescott, Lucy Gordon

The meeting was called to order at 6:35. The Secretary's report was read. Roger made a motion to accept the minutes. Stan seconded. Motion passed.

The Treasurers report was read. The Historical Society has spent $993 so far this year. He have $2,506 remaining in our budget.

Melissa Moore gave us an update on the Town History book. The chapter on Post Offices is done. The Mills are still in process. They were many mills in Loudon. Melissa is gathering information on as many as she can. For many of these Mill sites the foundations is all that remains of the physical location. The next topic she is looking into is Churches. If anyone has any pictures or information on “Old time” Loudon please e-mail us at LoudonHistory@gmail.com.

Roger has spoken with Perry Monument company about a plaque. This plaque would be about 36” x 30”. There would be enough space to write the names of Loudon's Civil War and Revolutionary War soldiers. This would be located at Veterans Park, near the library.

We discussed Loudon's upcoming 250th anniversary. This should be a Town wide discussion on what to do, when, where, who etc.

We are looking for nominations for the Boston Post Cane. Please contact a member of the Historical Society if you know of someone that would like this Honorary cane.

We had two chairs caned. One was the 1890 Lincoln rocker. The other was a chair from the Batchelder home. A great job was done on the caning.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:40.

Lucy Gordon
