Historical Society Meeting Minutes 2-1-23

Attendance: Roger Maxfield, Elizabeth Whitham, Polly Touzin, Melissa Moore, Sandi Noel, DeeDee Tranfaglia, Michele York, Lucy Gordon, Jill Power, Stanley Prescott, Liz LeBrun

The meeting was called to order at 6:33. Roger made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting with the correction that the money for the Stone House is a capital reserve and not a warrant article. Lucy seconded the motion.

Lucy reported that $836 was spent. The calendar invoice has not been submitted yet.

Polly is working with Emily Fiske to put together a Native American presentation at Old Home Day. The presentation would be more easily scheduled on Sunday which we envision as being old-fashioned free activities. A flyer was suggested outlining the Native American local history.

Melissa reported that she has been working with a new copy editor for the town history book and all material went to the book designer today (2/1). Sally Ladd Cole has offered a painting for the cover. It was mentioned that we eventually try to purchase that painting.

The Traveling Trunks budget was resubmitted with more expenditures at the request of NH Humanities that we utilize all the grant money.

Lucy reported that Brenda was in charge of supplying name tags to workers on election day. Lucy will check for more details. Stan reported that Saymore would charge $12-$20 depending on what appears on the tags.

84 of 100 calendars are sold.

Volunteer Night is March 28 at 6:00 pm at the Town Offices. The Historical Society should participate. Melissa, Sandi, and Elizabeth could go and perhaps develop a poster or take some artifacts.

February 21 is the next Old Home Day meeting at 6:00 pm. We want to recover the time capsule at 1:00 on Saturday and open it at 3:00. We should have something ready to put in for the next 50 years. Stanley will coordinate this activity.

The Historical Society should also be involved in ringing the bell after the parade. We also talked of having a scavenger ready to put in the June Ledger.

Sunday should be a free day for families. We could request to leave the tent up and have a Church service at the gazebo followed by a family picnic lunch. We could have a trail walk and Abenaki performers. The book signing should be both days. The fire department wants to have a muster. We could have horse and carriage rides. Games could be tug-o-war, corn hole, and sack races. We could have best costume and best beard contests. The Old Home Day committee is working on a title and after that is decided, we should order some banners. We should produce something for the parade as well. When all is decided, we should print a full page ad in the Ledger.

The next meeting is March 22 due to candidate’s night. Lucy will check room availability.

Lucy made a motion to adjourn. Michele seconded the motion,

The meeting adjourned at 7:40 pm.
