Historical Society Meeting Minutes 5-3-23

Attendance: Roger Maxfield, Melissa Moore, Sandi Noel, Elizabeth Whitham, DeeDee Tranfaglia, Michele York, Stanley Prescott, Dusty Bowles, Lucy Gordon, Liz LeBrun

The meeting was called to order at 6:30.

Roger made a motion to accept the secretary’s report as written. Lucy seconded the motion.

Lucy reported there is $1136.93 remaining in the treasury. There are some purchases pending for Old Home Day as well as Wi-Fi costs.

Melissa reported that we have received marketing material for the history book. NH Writer’s Project will promote it as well as the NH State Library. There is a tentative June 1 delivery date. An e-book still needs to be discussed.

We discussed purchasing the Sally Ladd Cole painting that appears on the cover of the history book. There were questions about insurance on it and whether or not it is framed. Michele made a motion to purchase the painting. Stanley seconded. The vote was unanimous. Stan will contact Sally Ladd Cole.

The Town-wide Yard Sale will be June 3 from 8-2 with a $10 registration fee in order to be included on the map. Michele will register. The lobby area in the stone house will be used for staging. Members may drop off donations of items at the Museum.

Old Home Day Committee updates

· There has been one calendar meeting with Wes and it is progressing.

· The float committee will meet tonight. Jason Landry’s truck and Benevento’s trailer have already been committed.

· Games planned are an adult tug-o-war, egg in spoon and sack races.

· The Scavenger Hunt forms will be distributed Saturday and due back on Sunday in hopes to draw a Sunday crowd. There will be a $25 prize from Dudley’s.

· Arthur Austin will dig up and open the Time Capsule. Stan will get a new one. The selectmen want it buried at the Town Hall. Stan made a motion to have the capsule buried near the Historical Society Museum. Michele seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous. Michele will speak to the selectman on May 16.

· Michele reported that the churches in town are not being supportive of a combined Sunday morning service at the gazebo. Melissa will speak with Pastor Steve Ludwig. The Center Church pastor retired so that church is in transition.

· Gary Brooks will produce a 4x8 banner with grommets for $160. Dusty will ask about putting a banner on route 106. It was suggested we approach the town to purchase the banner. There was a motion by Michele to make the request of the town to purchase the banner. There was a second by Lucy. Motion carried unanimously.

· We discussed hiring a photographer to photograph the Old Home Day activities. Michele will contact Rachael Stevens and ask for prices. Stan will talk to Bob Rainey.

Home Depot is asking for rules governing historical renovation in Loudon specifically for a house on Ridge Road. No one knew of any specific rules.

The next meeting is June 7 at 6:30,

Roger made a motion to adjourn. Lucy seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 7:34
