Historical Society Meeting Minutes 11-1-23

Attendance: Roger Maxfield, Lucy Gordon, Wes Jones, Sandi Noel, Michele York, Elizabeth Whitham, Stanley Prescott, Liz LeBrun, Dean Wilber

The meeting was called to order at 6:32.Roger made a motion to accept the Secretary’s report as written. Wes seconded the motion. Motion carries.

Treasury report indicates $793 spent to date. Upcoming bills are the calendars and the 501(c)3 filing charge at $75 per year. Last year’s filing was forgotten and was submitted 10/31/23.

Expo update—Scheduled for December 3 from 11-4. 7 tables are reserved. Decorating is Saturday December 2 at 9:30. Setup is December 3 at 10. Roger will decorate the outside tree. Michele reached out to the fire department and they agreed to sell lunch foods.

Dean Wilber made a donation of sugaring antiques including taps, decanter, pail, and a handmade can. Stan will follow up with him to see if there are other items we may want. It was suggested we display them as a special exhibit in March.

Time Capsule—The committee will meet to catalog the items.

Calendar—Proof was received and the calendar is ready to print. The bill should be sent to Lucy. They will be sold for $10 each.

Peter Bartlett’s wife donated a Shaker bottle, scales, 1840’s school books, a geology book and a wooden bicycle rim.

No progress was reported on the Message Board.

It was discussed that we should have signs for the oldest houses indicating age and builder. Wes will talk to Pittsfield Historical Society for information.

We voted to pursue the Humanities program about Colonial Meetinghouses on April 3.
