Historical Society Meeting Minutes 2-7-24

Attendance Wes Jones, Elizabeth Whitham, Sandi Noel, Lucy Gordon, Stanley Prescott, Michele York, Melissa Moore, Liz LeBrun

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm.

A motion was made by Melissa to accept the Secretary’s report as written. Second by Michele. Motion carries.

Lucy reported $1850 spent to date.

We chose Sunday March 24 form 1-3 pm for the 1976 time capsule open house. Lucy will check the availability of the community room.

We discussed the family histories generated from the calendar project. Wes and Lucy will discuss finding space to house that research. Dyrace was thanked for his help with the calendar and he does not want compensation. Wes and Sandi will head up the 2025 calendar. We discussed possible topics being barns or vintage cars.

For the proposed message board, we want a double-sided electronic sign. We discussed getting other organizations involved that could also use it (library, town offices).

Stan and Wes will head the committee to collect more information.

We discussed house circa signs. Pittsfield has a base with white composite lumber. Wes will try to get a sample.

The Humanities program is April 3 with Paul Wainwright. Melissa is coordinating with him. Our obligation will be $65 for mileage. We will advertise in the Ledger (Liz) and on Facebook (Michele). Melissa will make flyers.

We discussed future opportunities to sell books and calendars. We have the Young at Heart presentation, Town Meeting, the time capsule open house and the Humanities presentation already scheduled. The post office has also agreed to sell the books. The Town asked to put the book cover on the Town Report. Dave Swenson took 6 books to sell at the Racing Museum.

To coordinate with Maple Weekend in March, we will put up a maple sugar display with the artifacts from Dean Wilber and write an article for the Ledger.

Misc. topics of brief discussion:

· No yard sale this year since we do not have enough items to sell.

· Interest in creating cemetery tours.

· Ancestry program should be on the Historical Society Computer.

· The Library has donated some early 1900 history books.

· The Magoons have donated some history on the Nathan Batchelder Militia.

Next meeting is March 13 at 6:30 pm

Motion made by Stan to adjourn. Second by Michele. Meeting adjourned at 7:40 pm
